Step-by-Step Guide
Navigating this process alone can be confusing, but with P&CP, we are here every step of the way!

1. Pre-Licensing Requirement: What You Need to Know
Depending on your state, you may be required to complete and pass a Pre-Licensing Exam before taking the official State Exam. Check your State requirements.
While pre-licensing is not mandatory in every state, we strongly recommend pairing an accredited pre-licensing course with our study programs for the best chance at success.
To support you, we’ve partnered with Cerifi, a trusted provider of pre-licensing education. All of our packages include a 30% discount on Cerifi’s Pre-Licensing Program—so you can prepare smarter, not harder.

2. Book Your State Exam|
To schedule your Exam, States use 1 of 3 options. Prometric, Pearson VUE, or PSI. You will have the option to schedule your exam from home or in person at a testing center.
If Testing In Person: Bring a valid photo ID & your pre-license certificate (if required) & travel light—personal belongings are not allowed inside the testing room. Lockers are provided to store your items during the exam.

3.Seal the Deal with Your License Application|
Once you pass your exam, it’s time to apply for your license! Depending on your state, you may also be required to complete fingerprinting as part of the background check process. The order of these steps— Fingerprinting & license application—varies by state — Review your state’s specific requirements to stay on track!

4. Be Sure to Check Your State’s Requirements
It's essential to review your State’s Department of Insurance Guidelines. Taking the time to review your state’s specific instructions can help you avoid unnecessary delays and ensure a smooth, successful path to becoming officially licensed!
