If you ask most people why they failed the P&C exam, they'll say they didn't study enough. But that's usually not the real reason.
THE REAL REASON: Reading questions the wrong way.
The P&C exam is full of scenario-based questions designed to trick you if you read them too fast. The question isn't testing whether you know a definition. It's testing whether you can apply it to a specific situation.
HERE'S THE PATTERN THAT TRIPS PEOPLE UP
You read the question, recognize a keyword (like 'subrogation' or 'coinsurance'), and immediately pick the answer that matches the keyword. But the scenario in the question changes everything.
EXAMPLE
Question: After a fire destroys a commercial building, the insurer pays the full claim to the business owner. The fire was caused by faulty wiring installed by a contractor. What right does the insurer now have?
Students who rush pick 'indemnification.' The correct answer is 'subrogation' — because the insurer now has the right to recover from the contractor who caused the damage.
THE FIX: Use the 3-step method on every question.
Step 1: Read the full scenario before looking at answers. Step 2: Ask yourself what insurance PRINCIPLE is being tested. Step 3: Eliminate wrong answers, then pick the best remaining one.
Slowing down by 15 seconds per question can be the difference between passing and failing.
At P&CP Academy, our practice exams are designed to train you to think this way. Join us and pass with confidence.
