Understanding Dwelling Policies (DP)
Dwelling policies are designed for residential buildings that don’t qualify for standard HO coverage. They are ideal for people who rent property to others, own seasonal vacation homes, or have mobile homes.
Key Features of DP Policies
Maximum of 4 families & 5 boarders in a building (Under 4 “units” considered DP)
Owner occupancy is NOT required
Mobile homes can be included, but must be permanently located
Liability is not included (Can be added via endorsement)
Theft coverage is optional
Personal property coverage is NOT included unless endorsed
V&MM (Vandalism & Malicious Mischief) coverage only until the building is vacant for 30 days
Incidental services: Max 2 workers allowed (e.g., beauty shops, music lessons, professional offices)

Homeowners policies are standard for most families and come as package policies.

Owner occupancy is required
Mobile homes NOT included (Needs separate policy)

Personal property coverage included (Worldwide Coverage)
V&MM: Coverage until the building is vacant for 60 days
Home daycare: Up to 3 “other” children (Doesn't include the insured's own children)
